My Story
From my earliest years, I've always been a lover of stories, but for most of my life I struggled to read them. I am an oxymoron, for I am a dyslexic writer. I couldn't read until I was twelve and could barely write before then, but the stories I could create and tell were always strong and vivid.
At first, I tried to draw as an outlet for my stories, but that only captured snapshots of a narrative and was not quite enough to fulfill my needs. It wasn't until I learned to read through the Orton-Gillingham program that my world opened. Freed from most of my struggles, I began to write and create. I was finally able to capture my worlds in a strong and physical way.
As I continued my writing, I did it mostly for myself, but after my mom put me in a short story class, everything changed again. Through this course, I wrote the largest story I ever had, a full eight pages (which was like a marathon for me back then) and my teacher pulled me aside on the final day and told me that it was truly well-written and that I should submit it to the Scholastic Writing Awards.
I won a Silver Key Award for this piece, which sparked a passion for writing that I followed into a scriptwriting course that laid the foundation for the world of my novel, which is still in construction. I am currently enrolled in Ringling College of Art and Design exploring several mediums including, scripts, plays, and my new favorite, writing for tabletop and video games.
